Speaker’s profile

Dr. Sulayman K. Sowe is currently a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies fellow, researching on Open Source software for sustainable development in Africa. He is also a visiting scholar at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Sowe has extensive teaching and research experience in Open Source software, worked on dozens of large EU and African Open Source projects and has numerous publications and edited books on the subject

Sustainable Programming for Africa Project: Ruby SPA

Presentation outline

This talk presents the Ruby SPA project to be jointly undertaken by Japanese and African partners. The main aim of the Ruby SPA project is to provide the knowledge and skills the next generation of African software engineers, computer scientists, and information systems managers will need to meet the challenges of the information society and actively participate in the developments of sustainable technologies to solve practical problems affecting their locality and the global community. Some of the main objectives of Ruby SPA are to provide the African partners the infrastructure and teaching and learning material needed to effectively teach Ruby programming in African universities.
